The Effect of Varying Concentrations of Oxyhemoglobin on Its Light Absorption

چکیده
The validity of any method for determining the concentration of a colored substance by measuring its absorption of monochromatic light depends upon the ability of that substance to obey certain physical laws. In our discussion of the spectrophotometric determination of oxyhemoglobin and certain of its derivatives (Ray, Blair, and Thomas, 1932) it was assumed that these substances obeyed such fundamental laws, since the relationships required for the determination had never been questioned, although the method had been in use for over 40 years. The particular laws essential in this determination are the laws of Lambert and of Beer. Lambert’s law states that light is absorbed by a homogeneous medium in such a way that absorption is directly proportional to the intensity of the light at any point un$er consideration. Thus,

A Study on the Aggregation and Calf Thymus DNA Binding Characteristics of Anionic Cobalt(II) Tetrasulfonated Phthalocyanine
The aggregation behavior of anionic Cobalt(II) 4,4′,4ʺ,4‴-tetrasulfonated phthalocyanine, [Co(TSPc)4-] was studied at its various concentrations and different ionic strengths using optical absorption and resonance light scattering (RLS) spectroscopies in 5 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.0 at 25 °C. The results show no aggregation behavior at concentration range of 5.1 × 10-6-7....

The accurate, quantitative analysis of absorption and scattering properties in tissue is a central problem in biochemical optics, in particular for the determination of hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin concentrations. Because of light scattering, the absolute concentrations of these chromophores (i.e., the absorption coefficient) cannot easily be inferred. A new method for the estimation of the abs...
متن کاملNear Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)
Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a noninvasive optical technology that relies on the relative transparency of biological tissues to near infrared light (700-900 nm) to determine tissue oxygenation. Oxy and deoxy hemoglobin and cytochrome aa3 possess distinct absorption characteristics in the near infrared spectrum. By monitoring absorption at wavelengths where oxyand deoxyhemoglobin and cyt...
متن کاملStudies on UV-Visible, Fluorescent Spectral Properties and Solvatochromic behavior of Naphthalimide Compound Containing Quaternary Ammonium
This paper presents the results of absorption spectra, fluorescence properties and the effect of solvents on UV-Vis spectra of dye quaternized 4-acetylamino-N-2-aminomethylpyridine-1,8-naphthalimide. The fluorescency of the dye was evaluated and its Stokes shift value was 6140 cm-1 in DMF. The solvatochromism behavior of the novel compound is investigated by studying its spectra in pure organic...
متن کاملEffect of light Polarization on the absorption index of alkali metal vapor in optical pumping phenomenon
Recently atomic magnetometers are one of the best tools in biomagnetic measurement such as magnetic field of brain and heart. In this paper, the technology of optically pumped atomic magnetometer based on circularly polarized light absorption pumping is described. We have been investigated a new method for measuring polarization effect in an alkali vapor based on polarized light transmission. I...
